Flint, Mi - The only quiet moment in the Dort Financial Center on 10/12 was during the pregame moment of silence. This evening was breast cancer awareness night. As the team took to the ice in their pink and grey jerseys in preparation for the national anthem, a moment of silence was held for those who have had to fight breast cancer. After both the US and Canadian National Anthems were played, the place absolutely took off!

The Firebirds started hot 29 seconds into the game when Urban Podrekar (Defenseman 98) found an open Even Konyen (Right Wing 91) who drove it into the back of the net on the first shot of the night. They didn't let off the pressure there. While Oshawa had a few moments to breathe, the Firebirds kept control of the puck for most of the first period and in their zone. On a breakaway only minutes later Cole Zurawski (Right Wing 68) finds Matthew Wang (Left Wing 28) out in front of the net for the second goal of the night.

While the Firebird's pressure wasn't as effective in the second period, the Oshawa Generals didn't do themselves any favors by committing two tripping penalties one right after another. Going down to 5-3 the Generals couldn't keep Jimmy Lombardi (Center 10) from finding the back of the net putting the Firebirds at 3-0. After a fight had broken out, putting the Oshawa Generals on the Power Play, they had their opportunity to put points on the board and took it. Off of a breakaway, Owen Griffen (Center 96) finds a hole and gets one past Day (Goalie 31), putting the score at 3-1 Firebirds.

It wouldn't be enough to rally the Generals, after some heated back and forth in the third period they couldn't capitalize. Nathan Aspinall (Left Wing 76) with a beautiful wrap-around goal drove home the last goal of the night securing a 4-1 victory for the Flint Firebirds.

The Oshawa Generals had 20 shots on goal over all with Goalie Jacob Oster making 31 saves. The Flint Firebirds had 35 shots on goal with goalie Nathan Day making 19 saves.

This puts the Flint Firebirds at a record of 4-2-0.

They play again on 10/13 away against the Sarnia Sting, and you can listen to them live on US 103.1!
