The City Council Results Are In!

On Tuesday August 6th, the City of Flint headed to the polls to determine the ballot for the elections in November, in addition to outright selecting the 7th Ward City Council seat.

Our 1st Ward City Council Member, receiving 37% (428) of the votes and securing his spot on the ballot in November, Leon El-Alamin!

He was previously selected and placed on City Council by City Council after the passing of Councilman Eric Mayes. Leon hopes to get reelected in November to continue his efforts on Blight Removal and helping to create opportunities in Flint for the formally incarcerated.

Carol McIntosh secured 27% (305) of the vote and secured her spot against Leon El-Alamin in November.

Outright winning the 7th Ward City Council seat with 51% (869) of the vote is Candice Mushatt. She, like Leon El-Alamin, was previously selected and placed in the Council seat. This happened when Allie Herkenroder had previously resigned from her council seat in July of 2023.

Here is a public statement from Candice after securing the 7th Ward Council seat.

"Thank you to the 7th ward residents! WE DID THIS TOGETHER! THIS IS OUR SEAT! I look forward to continuing our work together.
For the past year I've made it my mission to make it perfectly clear that I wanted to be on council and that I am completely dedicated to my city. Residents heard it, but more importantly they witnessed it. I walked my talk and modeled my words every single day of my appointment."

Whether you see the faces you voted for above, or not, I hope we can all wish them continued success for the good of the city. And good luck to those looking to secure their seats in November!
