Flint, Mi - Claressa Shields is set to make history AGAIN as she returns to her hometown to fight in the first ever undisputed women's world heavyweight championship on February 2nd at the Dort Financial Center. She's already a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the only boxer, male or female, to achieve undisputed status in two weight divisions, Shields is now within reach of a third.

Standing across the ring will be Brooklyn’s Danielle Perkins, an undefeated 6-foot heavyweight with a background in professional basketball. Perkins, boasting a 5-0 record, has steadily climbed the ranks and is prepared for the biggest fight of her career. With Shields’ fire inside and Perkins’ size advantage, this battle for the undisputed World Heavyweight Championship is set to be a barn burner.
Shields has an unmatched boxing resume. She was the first American woman to win Olympic gold in boxing, securing back-to-back gold medals in 2012 and 2016. Since turning professional, she has dominated every weight class she’s entered, becoming undisputed champion at middleweight and super welterweight. Now, she steps into the heavyweight division with a chance to achieve something unheard of.
Her opponent, Perkins, is a natural athlete. Transitioning from a successful basketball career in Europe to boxing, she has quickly adapted to the sport and is eager to prove herself against Shields. She last fought in July 2024 on the same card as Shields', earning a dominant decision victory over Christianne Fahey. She now faces her biggest challenge yet.
While I do believe that Shields will come out victorious, her nickname "T-Rex" lingers. She got this nickname because of her short arms; will the reach advantage and punching power of Perkins be too much? Or will Shields be able to stay inside to do the needed damage like she did in her victory in New Jersey over, Christina Hammer?
This fight headlines Super Fight Sunday, a STACKED card. In the co-main event, Brandon Moore (16-1, 10 KOs) takes on the undefeated Skylar Lacy (8-0-2, 6 KOs) for the USBA Heavyweight Title. These two couldn't help but clash heads at the press conference on Thursday. Moore has made it clear that he plans to inflict as much pain as possible on his opponent.

We will see on Sunday what Lacey has to say about that! Additionally, the card will showcase a strong lineup of women’s boxing, including Carolyne Veyre vs. Carmen Vargas for the WBA Inter-Continental Featherweight Title and the professional debut of Ashleyann Lozada, Puerto Rico’s first-ever female Olympic boxer.
Joseph Hicks (11-0, 7 KOs) and Joshua Pagan (11-0, 4 KOs) will defend their undefeated records, while Leon Lawson III (16-1, 9 KOs) looks to continue his knockout streak in front of his home state crowd. Flint’s own Jaquan McElroy (2-0, 1 KO) will also be in action.
This is more than a boxing match; it’s a homecoming for a champion who has never forgotten where she came from. From Eisenhower Elementary, to the Berston Field House, to Northwestern High School, to all over the world, Shields has carried that fire inside, proving time and time again that Flint forges greatness. February 2nd will be another chapter in her already legendary career, and the world will be watching as she aims to make history, again.
Buy a ticket, go watch her fight, and watch history unfold.
