Flint, Mi –
A Wednesday night crowd gathered at the Capitol Theatre on April 15 for a hip hop showcase as part of the Flint Under the Stars concert series, featuring Jeff Skigh, Twicee, and King Ca$hes.
The donation-based series is held on the third Wednesday of each month under the theater’s starry dome, highlighting artists from Flint and the surrounding area.
Part way through the set Jeff Skigh prompted King Ca$hes and Twicee to come up with a stage name for the Trio. With little hesitation Ca$hes floated “80 Degrees in Flint”. Drawing an immediate, “I kinda f@#k with that!” from someone in the crowd behind me.
I don’t know if the name will stick but it made for fun crowd work.
The trio performed alongside a live band, consisting of bass, drums, keys, and a saxophone. The group encouraged the live band to shine, working in a couple of smooth solos. Special shout out to Jeff on the Saxophone, although the entire band was phenomenal also.
Closing out the show, Jeff left the crowd with a message of community, “If you guys haven’t noticed, no one is coming to save us, it’s on us to look out for each other.”
